Plot/Synopsis:

Sleep Good – Rock Well is a rockumentary about Finland’s 22-Pistepirkko – one of the truly original and eccentric bands to come from the Nordic countries. After 25 years and 10 unique albums, this is the first portrait of band members Asko, PK and Espe during a demanding tour of Europe spanning 50 concerts in 50 days. The film captures the spirit of the band and tells an inspiring musical story about ambition, brotherhood, friendship and will power. Beyond the tour, the film follows the band developing new material in snowy Finland and eventually recording in sunny summer Helsinki.

Lone Star Hotel is a touching journey into the mental landscape of a Finnish man who ponders on his future, his life and the realisation of his dreams. The lead vocalist of the band Agents, Jorma Kääriäinen, stars in this documentary film about him and his life. Jorma Kääriäinen and Agents are one of the biggest crowd-pullers in Finnish dance halls. Wherever the band plays, the place is always packed. Agents have established their position in Finnish music and their albums, with Jorma singing the lead vocals, sell gold without exception. Like many musicians, Jorma lives on the road, on a constant journey toward his dream. Going from one hotel to another is lonely, giving this father of three plenty of time to muse over his life and his stardom. Even with its deep themes and the ruggedness of both the Finnish landscape and the man living in it, the film is still warm, benevolent, humorous and entertaining, just like Jorma. Plot/Synopsis:
Alain Moreau sings for one of the few remaining dance-bands in Clermont-Ferrand.
Though something of an idol amongst his female audience he has a melancholic awareness of the slow disappearance of that audience and of his advancing years.
He is completely knocked off balance when he meets strikingly attractive and much younger businesswoman Marion.
She seems distant and apparently otherwise involved but soon shows quiet signs of reciprocating his interest.
A brief dalliance turns into something much more complicated and he starts to employ – indeed monopolise – her services as an estate agent by announcing he suddenly must move house.

Plot/Synopsis:
Paris, 1979 – 1980. Pascal resolutely delays getting his philosophy thesis underway. Christine, his girlfriend, can’t understand his casual attitude. Sarah is a singer in a baroque trio and dedicates herself to her art. Manuel, her boyfriend, tries to support her. The trio conceive future projects together, in particular an event based around Monteverdi. Directed by the Innommable, the trio’s musician, a man as cruel as he is arrogant, Sarah devotes herself body and soul to the recording of “Lamento dela Ninfa.” The disc is released and achieves considerable success. Christine gives it to Pascal for Christmas; he discovers and is delighted by Sarah’s voice. Sarah continues her work sessions with the Innommable, but he is increasingly humiliating and violent. She finally gives up. Pascal progressively sinks into a torpor and melancholy and can no longer stand being with Christine. She leaves him. Both marked in the same way by misfortune, intimately linked by music, Sarah and Pascal lose themselves in a shared dream. But how long will it last?

While Louis XIV had the longest reign of any French monarch and used his nation’s military might to significantly expand his nation’s control of Europe, he was also a noted patron of the arts with a particular love for dance, and this historical drama looks at the unlikely relationship between the King of France and noted 17th century composer Jean-Baptiste Lully. As a teenager, Louis XIV was the ostensive ruler of France, but his mother Anne of Austria made most of the decisions, while Louis staged elaborate dance pieces set to the music of Lully. When Lully was forced to leave Italy, he found an eager patron in young Louis, who loved his music and was fascinated by the flamboyant composer and his libertine ways. Years later, after Louis XIV had grown to adulthood, the more mature ruler took control of France’s political and military affairs, to the annoyance of the Prince de Conti, who had been Anne of Austria’s top advisor. But as Louis confronted his European neighbors, he also established a French dance academy and commissioned Lully to write a number of new dance scores. Lully’s flamboyant nature and open infidelity with both men and women earned him the enmity of the more conservative members of Louis XIV’s court, but the King remained Lully’s champion until health problems began to affect his ability to dance — causing him to lose interest in performance, as well as in Lully’s music. Plot/Synopsis:
The performer known as Farinelli, born Carlo Broschi, was famous in the 18th century as the world’s greatest castrato, a male singer whose testicles were removed in childhood so that he would retain the high, clear voice of a child while gaining the control and power of an adult vocalist. A strikingly gifted singer with a range of more than three octaves, Farinelli was given little choice but to sacrifice his manhood in exchange for his art, and as his career was founded on the surgery that would dramatically restrict his off-stage life, his art was in turn hemmed in by his family. Carlo’s father declared early on that he should only sing the songs of his brother Riccardo, and while Farinelli’s fame gives Riccardo’s career a needed boost, the mediocrity of Riccardo’s compositions holds Farinelli back. When the singer is given the opportunity to work with the great composer Handel, his brother’s jealously and Farinelli’s own poorly chosen career alliances stand in his way.
