Plot / Synopsis

Plot / Synopsis

Mafia leader Tayyar and Davut, a neighborhood coffee shop owner, both fall for the same woman, Eleni. Although Tayyar marries her she is actually in love with Davut. Aware of this, Tayyar attempts to take revenge on Davut by encouraging his foster child, Nusret to become involved in the mafia. Plot / Synopsis
Man Is Not a Bird is an antic, free-form portrait of the love lives of two less-than-heroic men who labor in a copper factory. For this first feature, following years of making documentaries and experimental shorts, Dusan Makavejev and his crew set up shop in Bor, a mining town in the mountains near Yugoslavia’s border with Bulgaria, interviewing the workers in the region and even shooting footage inside the local ore factories. Yet the result is hardly a staid tribute to the working class. Plot / Synopsis
It’s World War II, and in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands a Jewish singer has decided to work for the Dutch Resistance. She has personal reasons, as well as political. You see, she was among a boatload of Jews who left their Anne Frank hiding places and paid a man to transport them to safety. Moments after they were herded onboard, a German gunboat appeared out of nowhere and mowed them all down. Somehow she escaped and watched her family and the others slain from her hiding place in the reeds. She alone survived.

Plot / Synopsis

This autobiographical adult tale about childhood centers around life in a dysfunctional family, as seen through the eyes of six-year-old Bi. The boy lives with his parents, his aunt, and a maid in a stifling old house in Hanoi. His parents’ relationship is getting worse, and his 30-year-old sexually repressed aunt (a high school teacher) has never touched a man. Bi entertains himself under the watchful eye of the maid. His grandfather, a retired diplomat, comes home with a serious illness. At first afraid of this stranger, the child’s curiosity gradually brings him closer to the sick man. A second sister is married to a man who has another woman and child elsewhere whom he loves just as much as his wife – with a few conditions, she agrees to carry on with the marriage. Plot / Synopsis

In 1890, In Christiania, the penniless aspirant writer Pontus is unemployed and starved, and near to be evicted from his poor room in a low-budget boarding house. The lonely Pontus has written an article and his hope is that the editor of the local newspaper buys his literary composition to raise money to have a meal and pay his debts to his landlord. However, Pontus is too proud and arrogant to accept any charity or money in advance and despite his poor appearance, he insists to tell other people that he does not need any alms. Further, his honesty does not allow him to keep a change wrongly given to him. The hunger Pontus is becoming delusional and having daydreams due to the lack of food. When the weirdo Pontus sees the gorgeous Ylajali walking on the street with her sister, he flirts with her. Sooner the editor asks him to rewrite his article in an appropriate language of newspaper and Ylajali dates him, and it seems that his dreams will finally come true.

Plot / Synopsis

Kristin is the daughter of a prominent landowner in medieval Norway. She grows up in total harmony with the ideals of the time: strong family ties, social pride and devout Christianity. She accepts the fact that her father has arranged for her to marry the son of another landowner. Kristin’s beauty and purity create violent emotions around her. There are envy and attempted rape, murder and revenge. She seeks refuge from the world in a convent, awaiting the time for her marriage. Here the passion of her life strikes, the knight Erlend Nikulaussonn. He, an accomplished seducer, also falls hopelessly in love. They have to cross not only convent walls to meet, but social boundaries as well. Their love cannot be kept secret, and suddenly the innocent Kristin is the centre of a scandal. Her fiance withdraws from their engagement, her father rages, and Erlend’s former mistress tries to poison her. The affair grows into a political issue, and finally some of the country’s most dignified leaders persuade Lavrans to give in. The lovers win each other, but it is in front of a charred altar in a burnt down church, and their happiness has a double edge.
