Plot/Synopsis:

An unpredictable black comedy with an epic scope, Emir Kusturica’s highly acclaimed Underground takes a look at the modern history of Yugoslavia through the often absurd misadventures of two friends over several decades. The film begins in Belgrade in 1941, establishing the friendship between the gregarious Blacky and the more intellectual Marko during a drunken, late-night musical procession that establishes the riotous tone to follow. Fellow members of the Communist Party, the friends also share an involvement in shady business activities and an attraction for a beautiful actress. Soon, the chaos of World War II forces them to take refuge in an underground shelter with a variety of other townspeople. Years pass and the war ends, but Marko and the actress trick the others into believing that the war is still going on. Kusturica turns this inherently absurd premise into a vibrant portrait of the contradictory, foolish nature of war. Plot/Synopsis:

The “theatre effect” is often the sign of primitivism in film drama — except when it’s Orson Welles or Federico Fellini.

Satyricon’s sets are spectacular, neo-modernist constructions that combine pictographic art of the past with the angular sensibility of the present. Characters declaim their lines to phantoms beyond the screen or to decadent aristocrats in the burlesques that are frequently featured within the playhouses, feasts, tombs, temples and the other venues that carry the action of this mythical adventure.

Synopsis :

The film begins with the “hero” Encolpio monologuing in front of a fresco, bemoaning his fate.

Encolpio: student, pretty boy bisexual adventurer, and creature of fortune whose present misery is due to the theft of his boy lover Gitone by his friend and fellow student, Ascylitus. We are also introduced to Ascylitus by way of a monologue and quickly learn that he’s no sentimentalist.

Telescoping the narrative within itself, Fellini inserts myths and antic stories like The Matron of Ephesus ( a beautiful widow) or The Minotaur.

Synopsis :
A young zombie named Otto appears on a remote highway. He has no idea where he came from or where he is going. Soon he is discovered by underground filmmaker Medea Yarn, who begins to make a documentary about him with the support of her girlfriend, Hella Bent, and her brother Adolf, who operates the camera. Meanwhile, Medea is trying to finish “Up with Dead People,” the epic political-porno-zombie movie that she has been working on for years. She convinces its star, Fritz Fritze, to allow the vulnerable Otto to stay in his guest bedroom. When Otto discovers that there is a wallet in his back pocket that contains information about his past, before he was dead, he begins to remember a few details, including memories of his ex-boyfriend, Rudolf. He arranges to meet him at the schoolyard where they met, with devastating results.
