Plot/Synopsis:
.Documentary filmmaker Ulrich Seidl offers a provocative look at both Christianity and its followers by examining a handful of true believers through their prayers in this film. Jesus, Du Weisst observes six people — mostly Catholics — as they kneel in church and pray for guidance. Rather than offer a detailed look at their personal lives, Seidl allows us to learn about these people as they share their needs and concerns with the Lord through prayer, and we watch some of the subjects as their faith manifests itself in their daily lives. In Jesus, Du Weisst (Jesus, I Know), Seidl also touches upon how the manner in which people worship is often reflected in the design and decor of the churches to which they belong.

Plot/Synopsis:
The Seventh Continent (German: Der siebente Kontinent) is a 1989 Austrian drama film directed by Michael Haneke. It is Haneke’s debut feature film, inspired by a true story of an Austrian middle class family that committed suicide. The film chronicles the last years of the family, which consists of Georg, an engineer; his wife Anna, an optician; and their young daughter, Eva. They seem to lead routine urban middle-class lives, but suddenly decide to destroy themselves without any apparent reason. The film only implies some kind of nervous depression and isolation in modern repetitive life.

Plot/Synopsis:

A most unusual film, set in Alpine Austria before the 2nd World War, in which innocent peasants are pitted against greedy, malevolent farmers.
The peasants inherit their farm after their master is murdered, but the other farmers and the local priest cannot accept that peasants should own land. So after the initial exuberance of inheritance, the film gets bleaker as the farmers plot to undermine and drive away the new owners, whose success challenges the traditional hierarchy.
It is a confrontation familiar in many Westerns – but much more realistic and in consequence that much more gripping. ~ DVD

Plot/Synopsis:

A woman searching for a miracle seemingly finds one — but what comes next? Christine (Sylvie Testud) has spent most of her life confined to a wheelchair, unable to use her arms and legs, and while she has a keen mind and the means to seek treatment, she looks for a solution to her condition in faith as well as medical science. Christine has made a pilgrimage to Lourdes, the village in Southwestern France where a celebrated miracle is said to have occurred, and she checks into an upscale clinic where a young nurse named Maria (Léa Seydoux) is assigned to look after her. Christine imagines that she and Maria are becoming fast friends, but the nurse prefers to spend her time with her co-workers rather than her patients, and she often flirts with Kuno (Bruno Todeschini), a handsome man who also works at the clinic. Christine finds herself having several conversations with Mme. Hartl (Gilette Barbier), who has a powerful belief in the healing powers of the waters of Lourdes, and after several days of treatment, Christine is amazed to find that she’s regained the full use of her arms and legs. But once she’s experienced the miracle she hoped for, Christine’s interest is less in thanking the Lord and more in pursuing Kuno. Lourdes was written and directed by Jessica Hausner, and received its world premiere at the 2009 Venice International Film Festival.

Plot/Synopsis:
